Electrical experiments with plants that count and communicate | Greg Gage

Neuroscientist Greg Gage takes sophisticated equipment used to study the brain out of graduate-level labs and brings them to middle- and high-school classrooms (and, sometimes, to the TED stage.) Prepare to be amazed as he hooks up the Mimosa pudica, a plant whose leaves close when touched, and the Venus flytrap to an EKG to show us how plants use electrical signals to convey information, prompt movement and even count.

  • Wow something doesn't make sense here. Are you sure about this experiment? Those active potentials are caused by the actions you apply to this fly trap🤷🏾‍♂️🤦🏾‍♂️ Not because the plant respond to anything. I believe that plants may have some way of communication but this experiment is wrongly🙅🏾‍♂️🙅🏾‍♂️ performed.

    • @shivendra mishra Yes, exactly. I mean, they just call it prayer plant because of its unusual characteristic of closing its leaves together that looks like hand gesture when u pray.

Clay Art EtcClay Art Etcأشهر قبل
    • @Clay Art Etc probably thats not because of your praying... plants get stimulated with variety of other factors too.. may be its because of light or temperature or humidity at that certain time of day which stimulates that plant to close its leaves..

      shivendra mishrashivendra mishraأشهر قبل
    • Wow, really! I've known some wild plants that closes its leaves immediately when they sense something new touches them. And there's this prayer plant that moves it two leaves like hands when you pray, at a certain time of the day. Indeed, plants do memorize and communicates!
